Carrel Gilstrap, age 93, from Greenville, SC, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Brakebill Nursing Home. Born in Taylors, SC, Carrel was a member of Piedmont Park Baptist Church where she served in many capacities until her health declined. She retired from Stone Manufacturing Company where she was a supervisor. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Hovey Lawrence Gilstrap; her parents Lawrence and Evie Duncan; her sisters Inez Greene, Annie Lou Shelton, Ruby Duncan, Grace Simmons, and Verne lie Bruce; her brothers Fred, Alvin, Morris, Junior, and Jack Duncan. Carrel is survived by her son and daughter-in law, Wayne and Lezlee Gilstrap of Spartanburg, SC; her daughter and son-in-law Kathy and David Burnett of Knoxville, TN; her grandchildren and spouses: Rick and Becky Burnett, Matthew Gilstrap, Brooke Smelcer, Mark and Patricia Gilstrap, Mitchell and Melissa Gilstrap; and five great grandchildren; Katelyn and Tyler Smelcer, Gracin, Peyton, and Audrey Gilstrap. She is also survived by her brother and his wife, Clyde and Gail Duncan of Taylors, SC.; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Alexander of Easley, SC and Carolyn Gilstrap of Pickens, SC.; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the love and care provided by Brakebill Nursing Home, Knoxville, Tennessee where Carrel has lived for the last seven years. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 Wednesday, December 3, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Greenville, SC . Funeral service will be at 2:00pm with Rev. Rick Burnett and Rev. Neil Cochran officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
