Caroline M. Yokim (76) completed her travel in this world on Saturday, October 22. She was the daughter of Edgar and Caroline Malaney of Connecticut and preceded in death by husband Vincent Yokim. She is survived by sister, Marge Malaney, of Florida; son, Kevin Yokim, and wife, Kim, of South Carolina; son, Scott Yokim, and wife, Sherry, of California; and three grandchildren, Jeanette Yokim, Stephen Yokim and wife Chelsea, and Michael Yokim.
Caroline accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior after a bus trip to see Billy Graham at Shea Stadium in New York City. She was baptized while attending Nepaug Bible Church. While living in Connecticut, she and her family had the opportunity to visit Word of Life in Schroon Lake, New York. Before moving to Greenville, Caroline attended Farmington Avenue Baptist Church.
Caroline and her family moved to Greenville, South Carolina in 1979 so her sons could attend Bob Jones Academy and Bob Jones University. She particularly enjoyed attending Artist Series performances.
Caroline worked in office administration for many years, serving at law firms, Hartford Christian School, and most recently at North-Coombs Nephrology in Greenville. She was a skilled typist and had a very strong command of the English language. She particularly enjoyed working the New York Times crossword puzzle.
Caroline enjoyed music, elephants, Republican politics, and the Atlanta Braves. She sang in Sweet Adelines and in various church choirs. She was well known for her extensive elephant collection. Caroline was involved in Republican politics for several decades, dating back to her days in Connecticut. In her last few years she enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves (even though she grew up a Red Sox fan) on television and was particularly sad when Chipper Jones retired.
Caroline also enjoyed traveling. She visited her son, Scott and his wife, Sherry, in California, and her close friends, Gary and Sandy Johnson, when they were stationed in Germany. She was also able to take a trip to the island of Carriacou, Grenada, in the Caribbean to visit the Cornelius family and see their missionary radio station. One of her favorite memories was her trip on an Alaskan cruise.
Memorial service will be Thursday, October 27, at 2:00 pm, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Greenville, SC. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
