Carl E. Landes, 88, died on September 22, 2015 at Greenville Glen Assisted Living, Greenville. He was born on April 15, 1927 and grew up in North Arlington, New Jersey. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy in the Japanese Theater. After the war, he attended college and was a proud Virginia Tech graduate. Carl was employed by Chemstrand/Monsanto in 1952 and was transferred to the new Greenville office in 1961, where he worked until his retirement in 1982. He was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church for many years serving in such capacities as lay reader and Eucharistic minister. He loved golfing at Furman University Golf Course and until later years played 3 mornings a week with friends. Mr. Landes is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Russell Landes; two daughters, Deborah Landes Hayes (Les) and Donna Lee Landes; two grandchildren, Sgt. Landon R. Hayes (Stacey) and Regan Hayes Sinkuler (Zach). Carl was pre-deceased by his parents, Carl Edward Landes, Sr. and Audie Snyder Landes; and brother, Robert Sidney Landes. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, October 3, 2015, 3:00 PM, at St. James Episcopal Church.
