Bobbie Tomlinson Parks entered heaven on March 7, 2015. April 26 would have been her 91st birthday. She is the daughter of the late Alma Heinz Tomlinson and Jimmy Lee Tomlinson of Chalybeate, MS. As a young adult she moved to Memphis, TN where she met her future husband, Dr. B.B. Parks. Bobbie was a valued partner alongside Dr. Parks in advocating for vision health in S.C. and in her support of his military career. She played a key role in setting standards for vision safety by promoting the requirement for vision testing for driver’s licenses in South Carolina. Both B.B. and Bobbie were very active members of the South Carolina Optometric Association. Bobbie served as a leader of the Reserve Officers Association Ladies paralleling Colonel Parks’ leadership role in the ROA Chapter that still bears his name. Golf was a vital part of Bobbie’s life beginning at Paris Mountain Country Club and later as a member of the Furman Ladies’ Golf organization. Many friends and fun memories emanated from her years as a competitive, but fun-loving, golfer in local and statewide tournaments. Mrs. Parks is survived by her daughter, Dr. Billie Skinner Schiera, son-in-law Ron Schiera, a grandson, Joshua Parks Skinner, as well as her son, Russell (Rip) Parks and daughter-in-law, Edith Batson Parks, all of Greenville, SC. She also has one nephew, Bill Tomlinson, and his wife Carol, great niece, Robin Barrett (Mike, children – Kyler, Brandon and Trent) and great nephew Scott Tomlinson (Sara and children – Paige and Alexis).
The family will be receiving guests at the Woodlawn Funeral home at 2:00pm, followed by a service at 3:00 pm on Monday, March 9, 2015. The family wishes to thank the staff of Foothills Retirement Community for their exceptional care and inexhaustible compassion in taking care of Bobbie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pastoral Visitation Ministry of First Presbyterian Church, 200 West Washington Street, Greenville.
