He was born September 6, 1931 in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Pluras Hendrix and Lila Hughes Hendrix. A graduate of Berea High School, he went on to serve his country in Battery A, 68th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion as a member of the United States Army. During that time, he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
After service of 20 years in the Army, he retired from Steel Heddle and Bull Hill Ranch where he worked for 25 years.
Billy was a member of Earle Street Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Smith Hendrix, and son, Ted Ellis Hendrix. He is survived by his son, David Wade Hendrix, daughter-in-law Blanca Hendrix, and three grandchildren, William Ellis Hendrix, Lauren Hendrix and Adam Hendrix.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 12:30 pm at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park with a funeral service directly after at 1:30 pm in the chapel at Mackey Woodlawn Memorial Park. Internment will take place following the funeral at Greenville Memorial Gardens, 7784 Augusta Road, Piedmont, South Carolina.
