Born in Simpsonville, SC, she was the daughter of Ralph McAtee and Gaynell Pirkle McAtee.
A graduate of Parker High School, Betty helped her surviving husband build the very successful sign manufacturing, installation and service business, P.W. Bell Signs. Much, much more than a meticulous homemaker, Betty handled the day-to-day financial/bookkeeping operations of the business yet was home every afternoon when her two children returned from school.
While devoting her time to the business and raising her children, Betty also volunteered for many years with Arlington Elementary School PTA serving as their PTA President at one time. Family was always of utmost importance to her and led her later in life to pursue an avid interest in ancestry research. She gently and lovingly cared for both her own mother and mother-in-law, Geneva Bell Bush, in their home as their earthly lives were ending. Betty was a cherished friend to many, enjoyed reading and crafts.
She set a loving example for her children and extended family with her faith, tremendous work ethic and endless generosity.
In addition to her husband of 67 years, Perry (Pete, P.W.) Wallace Bell, Betty is survived by two children and their spouses, Karen Bell and Paul Huppertz of Georgia and Andrew Lee and Carol Bell of Greenville, four grandchildren and their spouses, Ashley and Daniel Elliott, Andrew and Betsy Bell, Cameron Huppertz, Rachel Huppertz and David Draddy, and five great grandchildren, Preston, Ethan and Caleb Elliott, Thomas Bell and Dillon Draddy, two brothers and their spouses, Stephen and Janice Smith McAtee, Randall and Brenda Williamson McAtee and a sister, Jenny McAtee Davis.
