Andy was born on July 23, 1952 in Charleston, South Carolina where he spent his foundational years. In 1966 the family moved to Greenville, SC and he attended Wade Hampton High School, where he excelled academically, athletically, and socially at the largest high school in SC. Among his many awards and recognitions were being selected as a Captain on the 1969 Shrine Bowl Team (an honor matched by his youngest son Jason in 2003), State Wrestling Heavyweight Champion Runner-up for 3 years, National Honor Society Member, Selected by the Faculty for the 1970 High School Hall of Fame for leadership, scholarship, and school service. He attended the University of South Carolina on a football scholarship playing both offensive and defensive tackle wearing #76.
After graduating from USC with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English, he was accepted by the University of Mississippi School of Law, graduated, and became a member of the Mississippi Bar in 1978. In 1979 Andy returned to South Carolina, became a Member of the SC Bar, and practiced law for 43 years in Greenville and abroad, primarily in the Middle East and Asia.
An enthusiastic traveler, Andy had visited 40 US states, most European and several African and South American countries. He was often accompanied by family or friends and took ample time to enjoy the sights, sounds, tastes and cultures, easily making friends from places all over the world. He was fearless, engaging, kind, loving and genuinely interested in every person he met, qualities and attributes easily recognized in his children.
In 1981 Andy married Marie Hemphill of Columbia, SC, and in the coming years they were blessed with two sons and a daughter. Andy was beyond excited for Drew, Jason, and Stephanie to join him and Marie for a lifetime of adventures. He never stopped planning the adventures they could experience together, and he was so proud of their achievements, accomplishments, and the families that they themselves now have. He often said how he needed to stay in shape so he could dance at his 4 Grandsons’ weddings.
In addition to Marie, Andy is survived by son Andrew P. Leventis, III (Katie), son Jason A. Leventis (Elizabeth), daughter Stephanie Leventis Diaz (Rudy), and by four grandsons: Andrew P. Leventis, IV, Luca Everett Leventis, Kosta Andres & Kai Alexander Diaz. Andy is also survived by his mother, Katherine Manos Leventis, as well as his brothers Peter A. Leventis (Lynette) & George A. Leventis (Phyllis), and sister Lynda Leventis-Wells (Alan). He was predeceased by his father, Andrew P. Leventis, Sr.
