On June 5, 2024, at 11:44 am, Alfred Groves peacefully entered the presence of the One who changed his life forever. Born on July 6, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Alfred's life was a testament to his unwavering faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ, who he loved to talk about with anyone who would listen.
Alfred spent his entire life working hard and loving others. He met his wife, Patricia Durkin Groves, at the age of 22 on his daily milk delivery route. They were married on November 8, 1958, and shared a loving union for 65 years. Together, they raised six wonderful children: Shannon (Kevin) Blackmore, Scott (Rhonda) Groves, Eric (Dee Dee) Groves, Micah Groves, Seth Groves, and Wendy (Joel) Frans. Alfred's family was his pride and joy, and he dedicated his life to their happiness and well-being.
Alfred's legacy extends to his 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his later years. He cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was sharing stories, offering advice, or simply enjoying their company.
Alfred came to know the Lord at Calvary Baptist Church in Landsdale, Pennsylvania, under the guidance of Pastor E. Robert Jordan. Every morning, he would read his Bible and pray, deeply loving his Savior.
While still working for 7Up bottling company in 1974, Alfred began his retail furniture business. He then founded Portable Heat and CUI, in 1978. Through hard work, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to quality, he moved CUI to SC in 1982 and today it thrives as a leading and respected business.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife, Patty; his six children and their spouses; his 14 grandchildren; and his 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Henrietta Groves, and his sisters, Etta Bickhart and Edna Chatfield.
A celebration of Alfred’s life will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, with visitation from 1:00-1:45 PM, a service at 2:00 PM, and a private family burial at Mackey Woodlawn in Greenville.
The family invites all who knew and loved Alfred to join them in honoring his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alfred's memory to three organizations he supported, Miracle Hill Ministries, The Wilds, and Hidden Treasure Christian School.
Alfred's legacy of entrepreneurial spirit, love for his Savior, kindness, and dedication to his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
