Thomas was born February 10, 1944, in Greenville to the late Ralph & Irene F. (Martin) Hans. Thomas was also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn “Sue” (Follrod) Hans on June 27, 2018, whom he married July 28, 1973; and brother-in-law, Dan Younce.
Thomas is survived by his sons, Travis (Alicia Palmer) Hans of Greenville and Clayton (Kelly Faye) Hans of Greenville; grandchildren, Samantha Hans, Zoë & Benjamin Westfall, Ethan Hans, Aiden Hans, Aliyah (Tyler Kolbe) Pike and Thomas D. Hans; great grandchildren, Constantine Hans and Corleone Kolbe; good friend, Vanessa Faulkner; bother & sister-in-law, Richard & Debbie Hans of Arcanum; sisters, Pat Younce of Greenville and Carolyn Conner of Greenville; and nieces and nephews.
Thomas served in the U.S. Army. He was a farmer and served 28 years as a Butler Township Trustee. Thomas was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Greenville and New Madison American Legion. Thomas served as a board member of the Arcanum Rescue Squad for 20 years. Thomas volunteered at the soup kitchen, food bank, clothing bank and Darke County Solid Waste District.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, October 5, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 131 East 4th Street, Greenville with Rev. Keith Menter officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville and Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the church.
