Phyllis was born April 27, 1941, in Darke County to the late James Shives & Kathryn (Buckingham) Meyer. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was also preceded in death by a sister, Connie Meyer Griffith.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Erica & Rodney Hiestand of Sidney; grandchildren, Rachelle Hiestand, Jaidon Hiestand and Tyler Hiestand; great grandchildren, Braydon Hiestand, Faith Hiestand and Nevaeh Hiestand; brothers & sister-in-law, Richard & Maria Meyer of Cambridge City, Indiana and Frank Meyer of Richmond, Indiana; sister, Sandra Ramsey of Richmond, Indiana; and special friends, Cheryl Hughes, Dave & Cherie Trimble and Sharon McGreevey.
Phyllis was a LPN at the Brethren Retirement Community for 58 years and worked at Western Ohio Podiatric Medical Center in Greenville for 50 years. Phyllis graduated in 1979 from the Dayton School of Nursing. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenville since 1949 where she was active in the Alter Guild and Lutheran Christian Women. Phyllis was recognized for 40 years of service at the Brethren Retirement Community and 40 years of service as a Girl Scout Leader while raising her daughter. She assisted her daughter while working on her Gold & Silver Award for Girl Scouts. Phyllis loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting, crafts, cross stitching and participating in 5K walks. She collected Precious Moments and Longaberger Baskets. Phyllis enjoyed working outside in her flowerbeds. She enjoyed helping people and her friends called her “Good Hearted Hannah”.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church 131 E. 4th St. Greenville with Pastor Alan Knoke officiating. Burial will follow in Gettysburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville and Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to State of the Heart Care or the Cancer Association of Darke County.
