Phillip Phil A Kirkpatrick

Phillip Anthony Kirkpatrick age 63 of Greenville, OH, passed away 7:45 A.M. Monday March 24, 2014 in the State of the Heart Hospice Care Center after a six month battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his wife Sandra (Corn) Kirkpatrick, daughter Adrienne (Matthew) Schipfer of Colorado Springs, CO, son Matthew (Holly) Kirkpatrick of Troy, OH; mother Phyllis (Mollenhour) Kirkpatrick of Greenville, sister Stephanie Kirchner of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Ella, Aiden, Ethan and Ava Kirkpatrick, and Marguerite, William, Jackson, and Samuel Schipfer. His sister- in-laws Norma (Charles) Berk and Wanda (Jerome) Flayler of Tipp City, OH. Nina (Paul) Quinn of Greenville. His brothers-in-law Ronnie (Linda) Corn of Tipp City, Steve Corn of Troy, and Jerry Corn of Van Wert. He has an Aunt and Uncle in Indiana and numerous neices and nephews. His father Paul Kirkpatrick of Greenville, OH. preceded him in death.

Phil was born on November 1, 1950 in Hancock County near Findlay Ohio. After graduating from Greenville Senior High School, followed by a few years of traveling the country, Phil joined Corning Glass where he worked in skilled trades and machinist for 29 years until Corning closed the Plant in Greenville, Oh. He was currently employed with Crown Industries in Celina, Ohio. He was looking forward to retirement.

Phil was a quiet and humble husband, father, grandfather and friend, who loved his family and friends dearly. An avid chess player, Phil was a member of the United States Chess Federation and competed in numerous tournaments across the Midwest. He introduced, with much patience, the game to his grandchildren and always had a board set up, ready for a match.

In his younger years, Phil's dedication to boy scouts and his pursuit of earning the Eagle Scout badge, cultivated his interest in camping. Combined with his enjoyment of traveling, Phil enjoyed many road trips throughout the country, where most nights were spent in campsites. He enjoyed traveling the road, a reflection of his simple, laid back pace of life. As his years progressed, the planning of a trip became as much of a highlight as the actual travel.

In the summer months, Phil could be found in his backyard, tending to his beautiful garden. A seasoned green thumb, Phil eagerly anticipated each growing season - planning the upcoming plant collection, plotting the garden beds and starting seedlings indoors. Like many of his hobbies, Phil shared this with his grandchildren, always encouraging of the many eager little helping hands.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday March 28, 2014 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Hershel Fee officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home.

It is the wishes of the family that Memorial Contributions be given to State of the Heart Hospice of Darke County.
