Mrs. Marchal was a graduate of Versailles High School, class of 1955, St. Mary’s College (South Bend, IN), Nursing Class of 1959, and studied an additional year in nursing at Catholic University 1960. Mrs. Marchal was a founding member of Hospice (currently known as EverHeart Hospice), serving as the first Board President, and second Chief Executive Officer for 12 years. Over her tenure as Director, Hospice expanded into 6 counties. Mrs. Marchal is a past President of the Park Board and was a member of the City Planning Commission. Mrs. Marchal was a very involved member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, served as an Eucharistic minister, over saw the reorganization of the St. Mary’s School, and served 3 times as Rosary Alter President. Joy was a member and past president of Elite Club. Her family considers her greatest achievement to be the loving home she created for her husband, children, grandchildren and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents Francis Vitalis and Whilma (nee Grilliot) Manier, brother August Edward Manier, sister-in-laws Carole, Joan and Ann Marchal, and Dorothy (nee Hickey) Manier, and brother-in-laws Robert and Richard Marchal.
She is survived by John Franklin Marchal, her husband of 63 years, her daughter Elizabeth (David Green), son Vernon (Maria Gutierrez), daughter Mary (David Kelley), son John Francis (Jeanne Curtin), granddaughters Emily Ann Marchal and Megan Joy Kelley, grandson John Charles Marchal, her sisters-in-law Jenny Manier, Patricia Marchal, Carol Marchal and Mary (David) Zubelik, brother-in-law George Marchal, and 14 nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday December 16, 2023 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church 213 West Third Street Greenville, Ohio with Father Matt Feist as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greenville. The family will receive friends on Friday December 15, 2023 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio. There will be Prayers recited on Friday at 5:30 PM followed by the Rosary Altar Society reciting the Rosary at 5:40 PM.
Contributions in Mrs. Marchal’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s School, Brethren Home Resident Aid Fund, and Everheart Hospice.
