Jordan Lamont Burr, born September 6, 2008, passed from this world to eternal glory at the age of 15, on October 8, 2023, after a tough seven month struggle with cancer. This life did not seem to favor him with many of its benefits, so generously bestowed on others, but in spite of various difficulties endured in a life so short, Jordan’s happy, lighthearted presence through it all leaves a legacy that attests that joy is stronger than pain and that misery can only remain where permitted to maintain its dreary and desolate reign. Crystal Burr, his adopted mother, whom he loved very much, took Jordan and his older brother Michael into her home, and into her family, when Jordan was only 6 months old. Jordan was all boy, but he was a sweet boy. Those who were blessed to know him will remember his infectious laughter, his carefree grin and his inquisitive eyes. His voice was funny in a cute way, that got even funnier, as it began to deepen in adolescence. His loud joking conversations with his brother Michael were hilarious, especially when they became partially serious as the two brothers tried to process real life issues together. Jordan was usually happy, ready to tease, and looked on life simply. Jordan‘s playfulness expressed itself as he powered around the farm on his four wheeler, flew his controlled toy helicopter, watched science fiction movies, and played his favorite video games. He dreamed of being a pilot in the Air Force one day. Jordan was also a hard worker. He and his older brother Michael, were responsible for their age, and together took care of the chores on the family farm. Br. Jason Hargrave, his adopted Dad, by his example, taught Jordan to do right and to serve the Lord. Jordan loved the saints and loved coming to service! He deeply missed his older brother Elias Burr who preceded him in death and often spoke of Br. Elias with great admiration.
After Jordan was diagnosed with cancer, he went to his brother-in-law Jeremiah. In his words, “Well, the doctors said I have cancer and I don’t really know what salvation is but I just want to be sure I’m alright with the Lord.”Our loving God received his sincerity and there is no doubt that Jordan was and is the Lord’s dear child. He dreamed of being reunited with his older brother Elias one day. This is the one dream that Jordan fulfilled. It’s no longer a hope for him now but it’s his glorious reality! During visits when Jordan felt poorly he would lie quietly listening as his Aunt Roz gave animated, dramatized accounts of faithful Bible heroes. These Bible story tellings became the theme of their times together and even carried over into phone calls. The feats of King David were most requested. Jordan never tired of hearing of his courage, strength, skill and his trust in God. He marveled that God would choose a simple shepherd boy, speak to him and use him to do such amazing things. Every session, no matter the story, Jordan was assured that God would use his life too, if permitted.
Jordan loved deeply, and was loyal to his family. He loved his mother, Crystal Burr, brother Michael Burr, father, Jason Hargrave, his sister and brother-in-law Aleese and Jeremiah Estrada. He adored his nieces and nephew: Jaliyah, Arianna, and Jason Antonio, and will be missed very much especially by his brother Michael. In spite of our pain, we rejoice that Heaven has gained yet another of its trophies. A trophy that validates the power of God’s goodness and love. Jordan, who has made his escape from this “vale of tears”, now celebrates his new and pain-free life with his Heavenly Father, in an eternal world of bliss and beauty far beyond our finite imagination. His troubles and sorrows have vanished and Jordan is forever resting in peace and comfort.
