
He was an accomplished inventor and designer of precision machinery. He served in the United States Army, attended E.U.M. Church and was a member of Gideon’s International.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Chester C. & Harriet (Badgley) Rice Sr.; Son: Joel B. Rice; Brother: John A. Rice.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Sylvia (Smith) Rice of Arcanum, Sons & daughters in law: Robert & Marilynn Rice of Arcanum, Dwane & Dawn Rice of Indianapolis, Indiana, Aaron & Linda Rice of Binghamton, New York; Daughter in law & spouse: Sheri & Tim (Cress/Rice) Hicks of Bradford; 13 grandchildren: Sarah Shearer, Jason Rice, Joshua Rice, Andrea Netzley, Deborah Rice, Joel I. Rice, Nathan Rice, Julia Rice, Ethan Rice, Lauren, Jeffrey, & Lindsey Rice, Spencer Hicks; 9 great grandchildren: Lidia, Magdalene, & Isabella Shearer, Jacob & Carter Rice, Caleb & Daniel Rice, Gavin & Landen Penny.
Services will be held on Thursday October 20, 2011 at 2:00 PM at E.U.M. Church 1451 Sater Street, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Lee Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in Wheelock Cemetery, West Milton, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be given to Gideon’s International, State of the Heart Hospice or Darke County Cancer Association.
