Charles Richard Faulkner Jr., age 91, of Greenville peacefully passed away at 8:30 PM on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at the Brethren retirement Community with his family at his side.
Dick was born December 23, 1929, in Greenville to the late Charles Richard & Hala (Garver) Faulkner Sr. In addition to his parents, Dick was also preceded in death by his sisters, MaryBell Faulkner, Charlotte Judy and Hala “Dolly” Marshall; and brothers-in-law, Virgil “Jiggs” Judy and Howard Marshall.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia Ann (Meckes) Faulkner whom he married December 23, 1956; children, Carolyn (Faulkner) & Andy Kingsborough of Clyde and Sam Faulkner of New Madison; grandchildren, Hala Faulkner, Hanna Faulkner, Tyler (Liliabeth) Stout, Patrick (Jessica) Stout, Johnathen Batten and Lyndsey Murphy; and great-grandchildren, Kelton Murphy, Raelynn Stout, Charlotte Stout, Everly Batten and one expected. Dick was very well love by numerous nieces and nephews.
Dick was a 1948 graduate of Greenville High School. He then served as a Staff Sargent in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Dick was a 1956 graduate of Wittenberg University with a B.S. in Education and received his Master’s Degree from Ohio University in Secondary Administration. Dick retired as an Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Bellevue, Ohio. He played football in High School for 4 years; Air Force (playing on the Alaska Championship Team in 1949) for 4 years and at Wittenberg University for 4 years. Dick coached football in Logan, Upper Sandusky and Bellevue for numerous years. Dick was an avid golfer and loved The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Browns. Dick was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Greenville; Greenville Elks; Greenville V.F.W.; Greenville American Legion and Greenville Rotary Club.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 18, 2021, funeral service at 12:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Alan Knoke officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Union Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard, luncheon to follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brethren Retirement Community Resident Aid Fund or EverHeart Hospice in Greenville.
