Wilbur J. Roberts, 89, of Batesville, formerly of Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the Margaret Mary Hospital. Wilbur was born August 26, 1925 in Dearborn County, the son of Charles and Mary Roberts. He was a graduate of Greensburg High School and on August 27, 1945, married Betty Lou Bausback in Auburn, Indiana and she preceded him in death on December 2, 2012.
Survivors include his daughter Bonnie Holzbacher of Batesville, his son Sheldon (Dianna) Roberts, Sr. of Greensburg, one sister Delores Sterwerf of Cincinnati, Ohio, one brother John Roberts of Fairfield, Ohio, two sisters-in-law Ruby and Anita Roberts, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents, four sisters – Dulcie Fink, Alma Fryer, Edna Gutapfel, and Carrie Teller, and two brothers – Ted and Carl Roberts.
Wilbur worked for 44 years at Standard Fertilizer in Decatur County. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Sunman and a past member of the Eagles Lodge and Knights of the Pythians.
Visitation will be from 11:30AM until the start of the funeral service 1:30PM on Saturday, September 27, 2014 all at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Lutheran Fellowship Hall Fund.
