Patsy A. Ahrens, 82 of Greensburg, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at the Allisonville Meadows in Fishers. Patsy was born on July 16, 1934 in Greensburg, the daughter of Andy Benham and Helen (Powers) Barhorst. She graduated from Greensburg High School, and then married Ervin Ahrens on September 16, 1950 in Ripley County.
Patsy worked as a bookkeeper at Hargitt Construction, John Hull Trucking and Best Way of Indiana over the years. She was a member of the American Legion, where she was bookkeeper for 45 years, and was a Charter Member at the Grace Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children – Donna Crank of Columbus and Andy (Kelly) Ahrens of Indianapolis; two grandchildren she helped raise, Leslie and Daniel Bailey, as well as five additional grandchildren – Ronnie Hitch, Dawn Lawson, Josh Ahrens, Patrick Ahrens, and Amanda Ahrens; two sisters – Ethel (Bill) Borneman and Olive “Ollie” (Jack) Thomas; half-sister Kathy (Tim) Reece; her brother Dick (Sue) Benham; 13 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter Debra Bailey and one sister Nellie Pfeister.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 4PM – 7PM at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Patsy’s funeral service will begin at 10AM on Thursday, September 29 also at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Wenning officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
