Larry C. Shafer, 73, of Freeport, Florida passed away on October 10, 2022. He was born on April 6, 1949 in Greensburg, Indiana the son of Robert C. and Betty Jo Howard Shafer. Larry was a 1967 graduate of Greensburg High School, and traveled back to Greensburg to attend every single high school reunion. A lifelong passion for rock music, he enjoyed playing the guitar, golfing, scuba diving, fishing, traveling, classic cars, and was the life of the party always ready to socialize with family and friends. He served during the Vietnam War in the United States Army. Larry married Anni Ryle and together they had four children: Shawwn, Angel, Brandi, and Larami. Larry worked as a project manager, for Reith Riley in Elkhart, Indiana, retiring in 2004. He then married Kathy Sanders and got to spend his retirement years in Freeport, Florida with their dogs Sedona, Amber and Kazamber, and Lacey the cat and spent much time with the couples' children and grandchildren.
Survivors include: Wife, Kathy Shafer; Children, Shawwn (Diane) Storms, Angel (Brian) Barnhart, Brandi (Brian) Matney, Larami (Jeremy) Vailes, Keith (Laurie) Edwards and Christina (Lonnie) Robinson; Sister, Diane Zapfe; Nephew, Bobby Zapfe; 20 Grandchildren; and 5 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Brother, Norman Shafer; and Brother in law, Gene Zapfe.
A gathering for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 11:00 am until the time of the Memorial Service at 1:00 pm. Jim Newberry will be officiating. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or to any disabled Veteran Charity of your choice.
