James “Jim” A. Meyer, 77 of Greensburg, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. Jim was born on June 21, 1941 at home in Ripley County, the son of Joseph and Hilda (Hodapp) Meyer. He was a 1959 graduate of Napoleon High School. He married Rita Buening on April 22, 1967 in Millhousen and she survives.
Other survivors include his son – Kevin (Mary Ann) Meyer; his daughter Kelli (Chad) Cobler; his brother William (Joanie) Meyer; and four grandchildren – Logan Cobler, Machaela Cobler, Samuel Meyer and Juliet Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Betty Meyer.
Jim served his country in the United States Air Force from 1963 – 1969. He worked for 40 years in maintenance at NTN-BCA until his retirement in 2003. Upon his retirement, Jim became a permanent adorer in the St. Louis Adoration Chapel until 2018. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen.
Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed traveling. He was proud to have visited every state west of the Mississippi River with his wife and children. He loved spending time with his grandchildren; especially watching his granddaughters ride and show horses, and collecting BB guns and fishing with his grandsons. In his free time, he enjoyed watching Westerns on television. Jim was a former coach of CYO basketball in Millhousen, Enochsburg and Batesville.
A Rosary will be prayed at 3:30PM on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, followed by visitation for family and friends from 4PM – 8PM at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. On Thursday, June 20, visitation will be from 10AM – 11AM before the Funeral Mass beginning at 11AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. John Geis officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Arthritis Foundation/Rheumatoid Arthritis Lung Disease in care of Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home.
