Gene R. Templeton, 88, of Greensburg, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2014, at the IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Gene was born on August 27, 1926, in Decatur County, the son of Dale and Clara Templeton. Gene attended school in Burney until 11th grade when he joined the US Army to help fight in WWII. On October 29, 1945, Gene married Norma Jackson in Columbus, Georgia and she survives.
Other survivors include their three sons – Daryl (Karen) Templeton, Dwain (Pat) Templeton, and Don Templeton all of Greensburg, his sister Maureen (Jack) Brewsaugh, six grandchildren – Tamara (Mike) Baughman, of Bloomington, Janet Templeton, Angela Templeton, Chad (Felicia) Templeton, Scott (Lyndsay) Templeton all of Greensburg and Nick Templeton of North Vernon and 14 great grandchildren.
Gene was a farmer in Decatur County for many years until his retirement in 1985. He also served as a Decatur County Memorial Hospital Board Member for many years and was a member of the Burney United Methodist Church for more than 65 years. One of Gene’s happiest moments came just last week when he and his wife Norma celebrated their 69th anniversary together.
There will be a private funeral service held for Gene’s family with burial to follow at South Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.
