Donald Gene Pettit, 68, of Rising Sun, passed away on November 12, 2021. He was born on November 19, 1952 in Hammond, Indiana, the son of Carl and Jean Hilbrich Pettit. He graduated from Highland High School in 1970 and then from ISU in 1977 with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He furthered his education years later to become an Indiana Independent Fee Residential Real Estate Appraiser. He started his own company, Pettit Appraisal in the early 1980s and appraised until he retired in 2020. Don was a member of the American Legion post 59 and enjoyed grilling out for them and playing cards and telling stories. He loved fishing trips with his brothers and family, playing cards and going to sporting events with his son. He especially loved watching his grand kids play sports and telling stories to his friends afterward. He was an avid Chicago sports guy. He was a true Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks fan!
Survivors include: Son, Mitchell Barnes-Pettit (Trisha) Pettit; Grandson, Addison Barnes-Pettit and Granddaughter, Aubrie Barnes-Pettit; Siblings, Kathy Pettit, Dale (Lela) Pettit, JoAnn (Rick) Jackson, Dean Pettit, Dennis (Cara) Pettit, and Peggy (Dave) Rubenzer; Step-Children, Chad and Marcus Normington, Jason, Jeremy and Corey Foutty. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Carl and Jean Pettit; Brothers: Dave Pettit and Doug Pettit; Nephew: Sam Pettit and Stepson: Brandon Foutty.
A memorial visitation will be on Saturday, December 11th, 2021 from 1:00 pm until the time of the memorial service at 3:00 pm at Gilliland and Howe. Pastor Dawn Barnes will be officiating.
