Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, August 22, 2011, at St. John’s United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born in Shoals, NC, January 9, 1916, to the late George Walter Hunt and Eliza Jackson Hunt, Mrs. Garner was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. She loved nothing more than spending time with her entire family. Mrs. Garner also enjoyed gardening, reading, and cooking. She graduated from Seagrove High School in Seagrove, NC and then from St. Leo’s Nursing School in Greensboro, in 1939. Mrs. Garner was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Arthur B. Garner; sisters, Alice Graves and Aubra Wright Burgess; brothers, Paul Hunt and George Hunt; half-sisters, Geneva Allen, Maude Barber, and Eva Smith; half-brothers, Moir Hunt, Roy Hunt, Watson Hunt, and Claude Hunt.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Eric H. Garner and his wife Kathy of Snellville, GA, Suzanne G. Payne and her husband John of Chapel Hill, NC, and Michael B. Garner of Asheville, NC; brother, Thomas Hunt of Bessemer, AL; grandchildren, Leslie Trimmer, Amy Cook, Alan Payne, Katie Snyder, and David Payne; great-grandchildren, Brett, Samantha, Madelynn, Josh, Joe, and Jenny.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Sunday evening, August 21, 2011, at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel.
