William Frank Turner, 96, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Blumenthal’s Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2:00 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with Pastor Rodney Mitchell of Rocky Knoll Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
Frank was born in Bedford County, VA, the son of Charles and Docia Craighead Turner. During his career with S.H. Kress, he managed stores in New York, Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Asheville, High Point and Greensboro being civically involved in all communities. After retirement he owned and operated Turner’s Barbecue in Greensboro for over 18 years. He was a long time faithful and active member of Rocky Knoll Baptist Church. A loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always had a positive outlook on life will be greatly missed by all his family.
Frank is survived by his two daughters, Shirley Ledford and husband, Luther, of Pink Hill, NC, Bettye Mason and husband, Robert, of San Marino, CA; brother, Ray Turner of Bedford, VA; seven grand children and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Wilda, mother of his three children; son William Frank Turner, Jr.; four brothers, three sisters, and wife Ethel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rocky Knoll Baptist Church, 501 Kirkland Street, Greensboro, NC 27406 or the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 13067, Alexandria, VA 22312.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
