Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Gate City Baptist Church on Hilltop Road in Greensboro. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery on West Gate City Blvd., in Greensboro, with Military Honors. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the funeral from 1:00 until 2:00 pm.
Born in Hamlet, NC to the late John Maness and Neola Oliver Russell, Boyd was a graduate of Rohanen High School and GTCC. He worked as an Accountant for Colfax Furniture until his retirement. He served in the United States Army from February 1969 until October 1970. He was a paratrooper in Vietnam and remained a fierce patriot until death. His joy was driving his grandson Nehemiah to and from school every day and spoiling him and his daughter rotten. He was a member of the American Legion, Society of the 173rd Airborne, National Rifle Assoc., and treasurer for the VFW post #9899.
Boyd was a loving and devoted, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 50 years, Diane Biggs Russell; daughter, Carrie Diane Russell; grandson, Nehemiah Platt; sisters, Brenda Herberg, Johnsie Conyers and Alice Lambert; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Maness, JC, and Benny; and sisters, Faye Shaffer and Macie Burns.
