William DeRosset Holt Jr.

Greensboro, NC: William deRosset Holt, Jr. passed away December 17, 2011 at Well Spring. A service of remembrance will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, December 21, 2011 in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where he was a former member of the Vestry and a 49 year member of the church. His ashes will be inurned at the Church columbarium. The family will visit friends following the committal at the Church in the Haywood Duke Room.

Mr. Holt was born January 8th 1929 in Fayetteville, N.C., the son of the late William deRosset Holt & Hannah Lilly Holt. It was there he met and married his wife of 57 years, Patricia Paton Holt. He was a graduate of Fishburne Military School and served in the US Air Force from 1946-1948.

In 1951 he received a BS degree from the N.C. State School of Textiles. He joined Burlington Industries as a trainee, later retiring in 1988 as the Corporate Group Vice President of Manufacturing. He was responsible for 23 plants in the US, Ireland & Italy. After leaving Burlington Industries, Bill was a consultant and member of the Board of Directors of Galey & Lord. He also served as Director of N.C. State Textile Foundation, N.C. Vocational Textile School Board member, VP of Holt Oil Company, and Partner of Holt Properties.

Bill was a member of the Greensboro Country Club and past Director. He was an avid golfer and a passionate fisherman his entire life. He and his wife, Pat, spent much of their time at Figure 8 Island in Wilmington NC, a wonderful place they loved to enjoy together with their family. He adored his grandchildren and their times together fishing, boating, shelling, swimming and golfing.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Paton Holt, and younger brother, Charles Baltimore Calvert Holt.

He is survived by his daughters: Patricia Holt Parker and husband George Wesley Parker of Pinehurst NC; Pickett Holt Yon and Husband Michael Dean Yon of Charlotte, NC; Lucille Paton Holt of Raleigh NC; Mary deRosset Holt Rainosek and husband Mark Alan Rainosek of Atlanta, GA. Nine Grandchildren; Katherine deRosset Holt Davis, Patricia Paton Davis, Hannah Holt Yon, Michael Colson Yon, William deRosset Holt Yon, Patricia Holt Langston, Michael Scott Langston, Jr., Caroline deRosset Rainosek, Mary Ashton Rainosek, and his younger brother, Henry Walter Holt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 607 North Greene Street, Greensboro, NC 27401-2023.
