William Edward Hall, Jr., 65, passed away at home on Monday, October 31, 2016. He was born on October 15, 1951 in Roanoke, VA to the late William Edward Hall and Virginia Moomaw Hall. Billy moved to Greensboro at the age of 11 and graduated from Grimsley Senior High School in 1970, where he was president of the Key Club. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Economics from UNC-Chapel Hill where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He went on to receive his Masters of Business Administration and held the titles of CPA, CLU, and CHfC. Anyone who knew Billy, knew that he loved his career at John O. Todd Organization of the Carolinas.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Emily Rierson Hall; his children, Amanda Hall Brown and her husband (Dr. Jack Dale Brown), John William Hall and his wife (Brooke Hawthorne Hall); his loving grandchildren, (Emily Katharine Brown, William Elkins Brown, Lawton Knox Hall, and William Wyatt Hall); his sister Elizabeth Hall Powell, and his brother Hugh Thomas Hall; two nieces (Ashlea and Meredith); lifelong friends, Carl Evans McNeill and Pamela Ricketts Warren; and his devoted friend and caregiver of 12 years, Tyrone Allred.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Greensboro Country Club, the United Way Tocqueville Society, and was honored with the Trustee Emeritus of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Billy was diagnosed with MS 34 years ago, a cause for which he became a champion and led the research challenge of the Central North Carolina Chapter for several years. His enthusiasm and work also earned him a place in the National MS Society’s Volunteer Hall of Fame in 2003. He fought MS with a strong will, amazing spirit and determination. He was an inspiration to anyone he met.
Billy loved the Carolina Tarheels, and spending time with family and friends at his home on Smith Mountain Lake, VA, his “favorite place on earth.”
The family would like to thank Dr. Douglas Jeffery, 1st Choice Home Care, all the staff of Advanced Home Care, Hospice of Greensboro, especially his nurse Michelle Pendleton, and the many other healthcare providers who helped Billy throughout his journey with MS.
The family will receive visitors from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Hanes - Lineberry, N. Elm St. A private interment will be held. A celebration of Billy’s life will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the William E.
