It is with great sadness that the family of William “Bill” Charles Bradshaw, 71, a resident of Greensboro, announce his passing on Friday August 24, 2018. He was born November 26, 1946 in Staten Island, New York, the son of the late Frederick Jerome and Muriel Schriver Bradshaw.
Bill attended the Food and Maritime Trades High School in New York, New York, and then served 13 years with the U.S. Marine Corps, also serving in Vietnam. After leaving the Marine Corps, Bill worked as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service.
Bill was a Marine’s Marine, always ready to do what was right, demonstrating honor and discipline in everything he did. He loved everyone and gave to others without hesitation or care for himself. His laughter and smile were contagious, and his radiant positivity drew people to him. To know him was to love him.
When Bill wasn’t coaching youth sports, participating in adult sports or following his beloved Los Angeles (formerly Brooklyn) Dodgers, he enjoyed the peace and tranquility of fishing along the North Carolina coast, but anywhere there was a watering hole, really. Bill loved darts and was quite good – he was a marksman in the Marine Corps, after all – and was an amazing poker and chess player, courtesy of his keen memory and cunning strategies. He taught his wife, kids and grandkids everything he knew.
A wonderfully talented baker, the smell of Bill’s breads and pastries were the stuff of successful businesses. He earned a business degree with a specialty in accounting to satisfy his entrepreneurial spirit, opening both doughnut and pizza shops. His baked goods were simply amazing, as was he.
Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Velez Bradshaw, his daughter, Tracey Nicole Aguilar, and his son, William Charles Bradshaw, Jr., and their respective spouses. Seven grandchildren are heartbroken at his passing, but know he is in heaven with family and friends fishing and laughing.
A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel. Following the services Military Honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday September 7, 2018 at the National Cemetery in Salisbury. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 6th from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made in Bill’s memory to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave. Greensboro, NC 27405.
