Born in Greensboro on March 25, 1931 to the late Cad Bruce “C. B.” Smith, Sr. and Mattie Steinback Smith, Bill was of the Methodist faith. He served with the Navy Reserves and retired as Vice-President of J. D. Wilkins after 60 years of employment. Bill really didn’t have any hobbies per say because he was constantly working on his farm, raising cows, bailing hay, and using his tractors every chance he had which he never considered to be work but, rather a relaxing and rewarding pastime. He was a loyal neighbor (at the same address for over 60 years) and friend who was always willing to offer a helping hand. Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen Winger, Dot Scarborough, and “C. B.” Smith, Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory include his adoring wife of 67 years, Dorothy Turner Smith; daughter, Deborah Carr and her husband Wayne of Julian; son, William E. Smith, II and his wife Betsy of Florida; and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Carr and her boyfriend Jeffrey Clossey of Greensboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Francis Florence and Friends Equine Rescue, (focusing on horses as well as other livestock and companion animals), at 5205 Willow Bend Rd. Greensboro, NC 27406.
