Thomas Bankston Simmons, III, 91, passed away on March 1, 2021 at his home in Jamestown, NC. Thomas was born in Waycross, GA, on July 9, 1929 to Thomas Bankston Simmons, II and Ruth Sadie Morris Simmons. He moved to New York to attend Barber & Photography School and met Ann Colston, his soulmate. Thomas was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was honorably discharged.
After retiring from work in Los Angeles, CA, Thomas and Ann retired to Jamestown, NC where he went back to work for Guilford Middle School. Better known as “The Peace Man”, he retired from there after 25 years.
Thomas was a member of Memorial United Church of High Point, where he was the Treasurer. The family appreciates Pastor Ingram officiating the service for their father.
Thomas leaves behind his loving wife of 70 years, and five children: Thomastina D. Fenn, Andrea R. Joiner, Thomas B. Simmons IV, Aleza K. Simmons, and Marvin McQueen. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
To know him was to love him. He was a loving father and friend. A legacy of love and fond memories will remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2021 in the Mausoleum Chapel at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery, Greensboro.
