A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, 11:00 a.m., June 13, 2022 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
Tom was born September 24, 1926 in New Haven, CT, the son of John and Susan McDermott Gallagher. He was a U.S. Army veteran who rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and served during World War II in the Philippines and the post-war occupation of Japan. He later graduated from the University of New Haven with a mechanical engineering degree and was employed as the facilities manager at Dow Corning Corporation for many years. Tom was a member of Saint Paul’s where he played bass guitar in the church choir. He was also a member of the Italian-American Club and enjoyed tennis, golf, and ice skating through the years. Most of all, Tom will be remembered for his remarkably dry sense of humor and his quick wit. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, John Gallagher, and his sister, Catherine Morse.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Rose Buonocore Gallagher; daughters, Carol Hayworth (Douglas) of Jamestown, Peggy Leyden (Dennis) of Greensboro, and Janet Phillips (Gregory) of East Aurora, NY; grandchildren, Benjamin Leyden (Helen), Sarah Privott (Cameron), Megan Hayworth (Leonardo), Emily Hayworth, Jessica Phillips, and Hannah Phillips; great grandson, Thomas Leyden.
The family asks with gratitude that memorials in Tom’s name be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
