Tessa Weatherly Murphy peacefully passed away at her home in Greensboro, NC on Thursday, July 20, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Ethel Weatherly, her brother, James Wesley Weatherly, three beloved husbands: James K. Thompson, Lester Oliver Jones and James Freddie Murphy. All three were the love of Tessa’s life, in all stages of her life!
Born on November 5, 1932, in Guilford County, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Ethel Weatherly. Tessa was preceded in death by her brother, James Wesley Weatherly.
“Aunt Tessa” was preceded in death by two nieces, Susan Pheasant of High Point, NC and Rebecca Harris of High Point, NC. She is survived by 3 nephews: James Weatherly (Joyce) of Greensboro, NC, Allen Richardson (Sharon) of Cary, NC and Wayne Richardson of Pleasant Garden, NC and 5 nieces: Anna Horne of Greensboro, NC, Laura Cranfill (David) of Pleasant Garden, NC, Despina Anastos (Bill) of Troy, Michigan, Cindi Parker (David) of Raleigh, NC and Caroline Auman (Corbin) of Asheboro, NC. She is survived by 14 great nieces and nephews: Pam, Issac, Joe, John, Corey, Mike, Chris, Joy, Colin, TJ, Alex, Tyler, Jensen and Kellan.
Tessa graduated from Pleasant Garden High School in 1950 and began working at Jefferson Pilot. She was a true Renaissance woman- from the Executive Office of Jefferson Pilot to the tractor on her beloved farm. Her life was full with adored furry kids, dear friends, golf, travel, the coast and her favorite nieces and nephews! Tessa was an active and respected member of: Vandalia Presbyterian and Brown Summit United Methoidst Church. She loved them both dearly.
Please join the family in a Celebration of Life held on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hanes- Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel Greensboro, NC. Visitation will follow the service.
