Tara Sherrill Daniel, born on May 26, 1964, passed away suddenly at home on March 27, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, leadership, and joy. She was a beacon of kindness and enthusiasm in every aspect of her life, touching countless hearts along the way. Her grace and elegance were always on display in everything that she did.
Tara was a proud graduate of Appalachian State University. There she met her beloved husband, Mike, in the summer of 1984. The two crossed paths at the Farmhouse Restaurant in Blowing Rock, NC where Mike was a singing waiter, and Tara worked as a hostess. It was the start of a beautiful partnership that would span decades, blending love, adventure, and shared laughter.
While at Appalachian, Tara joined the Zeta Mu chapter of Alpha Delta Pi sorority where she formed lifelong bonds of sisterhood and served in leadership positions, culminating with her election as president in her last year. Tara’s lifelong involvement with Alpha Delta Pi led to roles as chapter financial advisor at UNC Greensboro and later District Finance Director serving 20 plus chapters. Some of Tara’s fondest memories were spending time with fellow sisters at the annual Grand Convention where she was known to stay up all hours of the night talking and laughing.
Her passion for community involvement was evident through her various leadership positions with the Sedgefield Woman's Club. Her grace, beauty, and attention to detail were never more on display than when planning and participating in various luncheons and events hosted by the club.
Tara was a long-time member of Jamestown Presbyterian Church where she spent the last fifteen years serving as the financial secretary. Her relationship with the church went far deeper than her job of keeping the books. She spent time visiting members in nursing homes, helping with various church committees and activities, and graciously going out of her way to spend time getting to know every member of the church.
Tara's vibrant and fun-loving spirit shone through her many passions. She was an avid concert-goer, often whisking Mike off to late-night shows, joyfully breaking his bedtime routine. Her night owl tendencies were legendary, as she cherished late-night chats filled with laughter and heartfelt moments. An enthusiastic recycler, she ensured all those around her recycled often and in the proper way. Tara became an eager collector of Tervis tumblers—always in pairs—for every school and organization tied to her or her family.
A gracious and talented host, Tara found immense joy in entertaining friends and family with warmth and charm, often weaving her knack for hospitality into unforgettable gatherings. Tara also exuded a friendly competitive spirit, cheering on her children in various sports activities, including swimming, soccer and tennis. Her love for tennis included playing with the ladies at Sedgefield Country Club and later acting as team captain. She was known to set her alarm clock for any hour to watch her favorite player, Rafael Nadal.
Tara’s proudest achievement was nurturing her son and daughter into thoughtful, independent, and successful adults. Her strong guiding hand was present in every aspect, from assisting with homework and school projects to imparting valuable life lessons. She held her children to high standards, and they seldom, if ever, fell short of her expectations. Dedicated to their education, she actively participated in their schools, volunteering her time and taking on leadership roles in the PTSA and booster clubs.
Tara's life was a testament to the power of connection, dedication, and a zest for living. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Mike Daniel of Greensboro, NC; her devoted mother, Carol Sherrill of Greensboro, NC; her brother, Ben Sherrill Jr. and his wife, Carol; her cherished children, son, Andrew Daniel and his wife, Susannah, of Atlanta, GA, and daughter, Jessica Henderson and her husband, Weston, of Greenville, SC. Tara also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and dear extended family and friends who will deeply miss her warmth and compassion. Tara was preceded in death by her father, Ben Sherrill Sr., whose love and guidance shaped much of her life.
A celebration of Tara's extraordinary life was held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, in the Christian Life Center at Jamestown Presbyterian Church, located at 1804 Guilford College Road, Jamestown, NC 27282. The service will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Jay Smith and Rev. Newton Cowan. Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends and loved ones in the church fellowship hall.
