Born in Randolph County on November 8, 1926, he was the son of the late John Wesley and Agnes Smith Gibson. Stephen served our country in the United States Army during WWII and worked for almost 28 years with Carolina Motor Club, now AAA Carolinas as a sales manager. He enjoyed golf, reading and his dogs. He loved being at home with his family and was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Howard and four sisters, Ella, Mary, Laura and Rachel.
Stephen is survived by his four children, Kathryn Hill, Ella Walker and husband Bill, Stephen “Steve” Gibson and wife Terry, and John Gibson; seven grandchildren, Scott Bayliff and wife Justine, Rebecca Hill and husband Andy, Sarah Hill, Grant Gibson and wife Shawn, Drew Gibson, Julie Allen and husband John and Katie Walker; three great grandsons, Julius, Tyler and Aiden Bayliff; sister, Lucy Varker; brother, James Gibson; and numerous other family members.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service starting at noon. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery with military honors being presented by Randolph County Honor Guard.
Stephen was a faithful supporter of the Salvation Army and the Greensboro Urban Ministry for over 15 years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army (www.salvationarmyusa.org) or Greensboro Urban Ministry (www.greensborourbanministry.org).
