Sofia Nowakowski Seaberg, age 89, born in Monongalia County, WV to the late James Anthony and Hazel Javosky Nowakowski, died on July 10, 2020 in Greensboro, NC. A private interment will be in Westminster Gardens.
Sofia grew up on a farm and certainly knew the value of hard work. She moved to Greensboro in 1958 and worked as a cashier and bookkeeper for Big Bear Grocery and later as a bank teller. Her friends and family remember her as very lady like with a sweet and quiet demeanor happiest tending to her yard and flower garden. When her children were young, she remained at home to provide a loving upbringing and refined her skills as a gifted seamstress, painter and baker.
Surviving Sofia are her son, Gene Seaberg, Jr., and wife Ann of Angier, NC and daughter, Cindy Butner of Greensboro; grandchildren, Emily Smouse and husband Bryan, Beth Sauer and fiancé R.J. and Christie Brown and husband Jeremy and their families; sister, Hazel Ann Laskody of Hartville, OH; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, her sister, Mary Frances and Lithisia and son-in-law, Jim Butner preceded her in death.
Her family extends special thanks to the staff of Guilford House in Greensboro and the “angel nurses” of the Green Valley Campus Covid Hospital.
