Shirley C. Cox

Shirley Corrina Leonard Cox, 89, passed away peacefully at Clapps Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden, NC, on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. Corrine, as she was known to her family and friends, was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend. She was born and raised in Greensboro, NC, retiring from Dow Corning Corporation. Corrine and her husband, Bobby, moved to Myrtle Beach,

SC in 1985 to enjoy their retirement years. She moved back to Greensboro in 2008. She was an active member of Rehobeth Baptist Church until her health started failing her. Corrine loved The Lord and her faith was shared with all those she met. She was a giving and caring person and could turn any event into a good time with family and friends. Corrine will be missed but, not forgotten. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robie W. and Cora C. Leonard; her husband of 36 years, Bobby G. Cox, Sr.; son, Bobby “Butch” G. Cox, Jr.; two sisters, Helen Godfrey and Rachel Turner; four brothers, Douglas D., A. Conard, C. Wayne, and Gary W. Leonard. Survivors include her sister, Dorothy Thomas (Joseph) of Greensboro, NC; a special niece, Terri Barfield, as well as many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; great great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and sisters-in-laws. Corrine never met a stranger and had many friends, including her dearest friend, Sandra West. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, with Pastor Tim Dunkin officiating. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 pm in the chapel.
