Sheila Ann (Harris) Steele, 68, died peacefully at her home in Greensboro, NC on Thursday, December 20, 2018. She was born on July 15, 1950 in Greensboro, NC to Herman Wesley and Mary Lou (Mackey) Harris.
Sheila was a graduate of Ben L. Smith High School, Greensboro, NC and attended Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, NC. She had a long and varied career in the retail and merchandising industry, and mostly recently before retirement, at Bennett’s Pharmacy. Sheila cherished her time at Bennett’s the most and made many treasured friendships there.
Sheila was known for her love of family and her community, the most important part of her life. She was active on many political campaigns, led the charge on zoning issues for her neighborhood, and made many life-long friends resettling refugees in the Piedmont Triad. She was especially known for her hospitality, informed by her devotion to the Roman Catholic faith.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Mary Lou Harris, her grandparents, her sister Anna Marie Harris, and her nephew, Jim Jones. She is survived by her son, Seth Steele (Brittany) of Washington, DC; daughter Michelle Phillips; grandson Drake Phillips; her sisters, Marcia (Orton) Jones, brother Andrew Harris, all of Greensboro; sister, Wendy (Ron) Horton of Fort Mill, SC; brother, John (Natalie) Harris of Ponte Vedra, Florida; and aunt Polly Frye; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home at 515 North Elm Street. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 2203 West Market Street, Greensboro, NC 27403. Interment will follow at New Garden Friends Cemetery.
