Mrs. Sara McNairy Knight, 95, passed away on August 25, 2017 at Countryside Manor in Stokesdale. A graveside service to celebrate her life will be at 2 PM, Monday August 28 at New Garden Friends Meeting.
Sara was born in Guilford County to the late Holly A. and Nell McKnight McNairy. She graduated from Guilford High School and the Business Program at Women’s College which provided for her a career as an administrator with Southern Railroad. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Edgar Wyatt Knight in 1940 and for 71 years shared a beautiful life with him until his death in 2011. They lived on a dairy farm in the Guilford College community where they raised three children. Sara was an exceptional seamstress and talented cook who took great pride in being a homemaker, dedicated mother and supportive and loving wife. She was a fun loving woman who enjoyed socializing, playing Bridge and especially taking trips to the beach with family. She was a lifetime member of Muirs Chapel United Methodist Church where she served the Lord and others through various activities over the years.
Sara is survived by her children, Martha Johnson of Brown Summit and Eddie Knight and wife Gwen of Greensboro; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sisters, Lake M. Bryson and Nell M. Bryson; and brother, Holly McNairy. In addition to her parents and spouse she is preceded in death by brother, Jack, daughter, Sally House and son-in-law, Jimmy Johnson.
The family would like to thank the staff of Countryside Manor for their care and concern during Sara’s residency. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
