Sandy was born in Schenectady, NY. As the daughter of a career Air Force father, she lived in Japan and Lynnhaven, FL, where she graduated from Bay High School. She took classes at Union College in Schenectady, and after meeting her husband, Albert “Kel”, while both were working at Grossinger’s in the Catskills, they settled in Ballston Lake, NY, where her primary occupation became that of devoted Mom, and eventually, Nanny.
Throughout her life, Sandy’s true passion was her family. Sandy leaves behind her loving daughter, Kathleen Kelly, and husband, George Hoyle, and two adoring grandchildren, Elizabeth “Libby” Hoyle and George Albert Hoyle, of Greensboro. Also mourning her loss are her sister Marlene Henderson and brother-in-law Steve Henderson, of Greensboro, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Sandy is predeceased by her husband, Albert Kelly, and her parents, Abbott and Elizabeth Seaman.
Sandy was a dedicated Mom, whether serving as Kathleen’s Girl Scout Troop leader or driving her to dance, tennis, or other commitments, she was always there to offer her encouragement. The same was true of her support of Libby & George – nothing brought her more delight than watching Libby dance or George run around on the soccer field.
After moving to Pawleys Island, SC when Kathleen settled in North Carolina after college, she served on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina. She also enjoyed working for BlueGreen Resorts, where her ability to go above and beyond was recognized as the “Employee of the Year” in 2006.
Always a lover of the beach, Sandy took joy in walking in the sand and looking for shells, which she then used to create wreaths and other crafts. Another love was pictures – she kept Shutterfly in business with her thoughtful creations of annual calendars customized to each recipient, mugs, and photo albums memorializing all of the activities, travel, and important milestones of her family. And finally, she was a sports enthusiast – basketball, football, tennis – attending multiple Wake Forest Bowl Games were some of her best memories.
Sandy treasured her relationship with her daughter and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She had a vivacious personality, an infectious smile, and an incredibly unselfish and loving way about her. She made friends everywhere she went. Her mission in life was to make every effort to help and support her daughter, and her family. While she will be missed dearly, her love, kindness, and utter selflessness are a legacy that will endure in our family for generations to come.
