A native of Lowndesville, SC, she was the only child of William Frank and Mildred Baskin Clinkscales, and was married for 55 years to her high school sweetheart, the late William Brooks Hubbard. She attended Anderson College and received her bachelor’s degree from Furman University. She did graduate work in Early Childhood Education at University of South Carolina – Spartanburg and the Gesell Institute of Child Development at Yale during her 24 years of teaching kindergarten at Trinity United Methodist Church, Spartanburg Day School and Houston Elementary School. She and Bill raised two sons, Chip Hubbard (Dale, deceased) of Whitsett, NC and Frank Hubbard (Sandra) of Easley, SC; and one daughter Sally Jones (Hugh) of Greensboro, NC, leaving behind 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She loved reading, flower gardening, bird watching, Bible study, traveling, crossword puzzles, coconut shrimp, Beacon tea and chocolate candy bars. Watching John Isner tennis and Atlanta Braves baseball on TV gave her many hours of pleasure. But, her greatest love was her friends and family. She belonged to the same bridge club for over 50 years and the friendships she made along life’s path from Anderson to Chapel Hill and then to Spartanburg, brought her much joy. White Oak Estates was a wonderful place to spend her retirement years and the family is especially grateful to Cathy Akins for her companionship there.
Funeral services will be held at Central United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Norrell officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Central United Methodist Church (233 N.
