

Greensboro- Russell Junior Oldham, two weeks short of his ninetieth birthday, died unexpectedly on January 19, 2015. Just hours before he was enjoying the football game with his niece. Graveside services to celebrate his life will be at 11 AM, Thursday, January 22 at Green Hill Cemetery with Pastor Gray Clark officiating. Those who would like to pay their respects are welcome to do so between 2 PM Wednesday and 10 AM Thursday at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel.
Russell was born in Greensboro to the late Jesse Frank and Pearl Denson Oldham. He served our country during WWII with the US Navy in the Pacific. Russell was retired from Cone Mills and also worked as a groundskeeper with the Parks and Recreation Department of Greensboro. He started golfing at the age of seven just hitting balls around an open field. He was an expert at his two passions, golf and bowling and for 45 years enjoyed maintaining the course record of 61 at the Wolf Creek Golf Club. The other highlight of his golf career was playing in the GGO in 1975. He was happily married to Isabel Mays Oldham for more than 40 years until her death in 1990.
He is survived by two sisters, Marie Hunsucker and Nancy Pardue both of Greensboro and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Russell is preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
