Born July 20, 1944, in Mullen’s, WVA, Roy bounded for heaven on April 23, 2010. Now free to breathe deeply, to laugh hard, to stretch till it tingles, to swing thru those golf balls, to run, jump, swim, to even balance on a beam, to swallow easily his favorite foods, and to hug to his heart’s content.
Survived by his lifelong friend and wife of forty five wonderful years, Jacque Hill; his beloved niece Elizabeth and her fantastic husband, Mike Abbott; Sister in law, Betty Hill; his brother, Tommy; his Mother in Law, Lee Tompkins; two aunts, Augusta Stinnett, and Charlotte Vandette; cousins, Mack and Vicki Hall, Melinda and Gregg Ryder, Charlotte and Brian Donovan, Tom and Nancy Stinnett, Craig Stinnett, Jondra and Richard Bjorkman, and Sherrill Patrick. Roy has extended relatives coast to coast and from Massachusetts to Florida…with friends linking around the world, including several youngsters in Belfast, Ireland who stole his heart away many years ago.
Though born in Mullens, Roy grew up in Buchanan, VA, graduated Ferrum College as “Mr. Ferrum” in 1964; Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1966, and was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, and PP Turner Masonic Lodge, Greensboro, NC., Trinity Episcopal Church, Buchanan, VA, where he had been the youngest layreader in his diocese at age 13. Roy loved and enjoyed his life…and would want you to know that he was retired for 251 Monday mornings!
