A service celebrating his life will be held Tuesday January 15 at 11:00 am in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church where he was a long-time active member of the Young Men’s Bible Class. A reception will immediately follow the service.
While in high school, Ron was the fastest one-mile high school runner in the United States, establishing the one-mile track record for California. He received twenty-one scholarship offers from various colleges and universities.
After receiving his BS and MS degrees from Golden State University, he followed a tour of duty in the US Army during the Korean War.
Later he began his career with AT&T as a logistics transportation analyst in technology. Following his retirement, Ron began a painting hobby and became an instructor of oil, acrylic, and water color painting, teaching art classes at Guilford Technical Community College and First Presbyterian Church.
Ron lost a son, Mark Bauer, of Seattle, Washington, February, 2018.
Ron is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Holly” Bauer of Charlotte and Greensboro, NC; two daughters, Karen Milone of Kansas City, Missouri (husband, John) and Brenda Johnson of Lee’s Summit, Missouri (husband, Rodney); one son, Dirk Bauer of Peculiar Missouri (wife, Kami); a sister, Evelyn Van Gelder (husband, Van); 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members.
