Mr. Robert Horner Parks, 95, of Greensboro died Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Beacon Place Hospice Home in Greensboro. Mr. Parks was born Oct. 3, 1927, in Sampson County to the late Charles W. and Lula Horner Parks. When less than a week old, the family moved to Greensboro.
Robert worked for many years with Charles Parks Transfer, a trucking-hardware company started after World War II by his Father. The company had close ties with Odell Hardware in Greensboro– Robert finished his long career as the Transportation Manager there. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy SeaBees.
He is survived by his son, Robert Daniel (Dan) Parks (Bonnie); grandson Matt Thacker (Melanie), great grandchildren, Madison and Mason Thacker; and close family friend, Phil Jones (Laura).
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Kimbro Parks in 2000. He and Dorothy shared a deep Christian faith.
He also lost his second wife, Mildred (Ross) “Millie” Parks in 2018. Surviving are Millie’s daughter, Carol Neilson (Jim).
Robert was one of nine children: four brothers (Truman, Wayne, Fentress, and Wilson); and four sisters (Willene, Sarah, Cara Van, and Ruby). He is survived by his sister, Ruby, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 11 AM, Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Westminster Gardens Mausoleum followed by a celebration of life service at 12 PM.
