Robert Wayne Gibson

Wayne graduated from Southeast High School, Class of 1966 and then graduated from Guilford College.

He joined the Greensboro Police Department and served for 30 years retiring as a Captain.

During his tenure with the department, he was instrumental in the development and implementation of the first Greensboro SWAT team.

Wayne furthered his career by attending the National Police Academy in Chicago, Illinois and the FBI Training Academy for police personal in Quantico, Virginia.

He was very involved in his community by serving on the Alamance Fire Department Board for a number of years, including serving as its president.

He was a member of the Forest Oaks Country Club and in addition, served on the Board of Directors and was elected president of the Forest Oaks Men’s Golf Association.

Wayne was very proud of obtaining his goal of becoming an Eagle Scout. He had a strong love of God and Country. He became a 32 degree Master Mason in Guilford Lodge 656. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Oasis Shriners.

Those left to cherish his memory include is his wife of 50 years, Terrie Snyder Gibson. His beloved daughter, Courtney Fisher of Richmond, Virginia and his two precious grandchildren, Cameron and Mackenzie, of whom he loved so much and was so proud.

Wayne also leaves behind his only brother, Craig Hendrix of Greensboro, whom he considered to be his best friend. He is also survived by loved-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Most of all, Wayne will be missed by his 8 lb. guard dog and companion, “Boop”.

Wayne’s request was that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Humane Society or to an animal shelter in your area.

A memorial service celebrating Wayne’s life, will be Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., in Greensboro, with family receiving friends and loved ones after the service.
