Robert Edward Patton Jr., 88, of Greensboro, NC passed away peacefully on August 3, 2023 at Hospice House. Bob was born in July 17, 1935 in Barnesville, GA to the late Robert E Patton Sr. and Martha Frances Patton. He spent most of his young life in Louisville KY before moving to Houston TX where he graduated from Lamar High School. After serving in the US Army for four years, Bob moved to Greensboro and received a degree in History from Guilford College.
On April 13, 1963 he married the love of his life, June Tally Patton and they just recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Bob had a successful career in real estate and insurance. He worked over 20 years for Patton Brothers Realty which his dad started. He finished his career as an independent life insurance agent.
His greatest passion was sports. He coached numerous teams in Pleasant Garden and was a long time umpire. He was inducted into the Youth Baseball Hall of Fame as an umpire in Cooperstown, New York in 2009. He deeply loved watching his grandkids play sports and rarely missed a game.
He was a lifelong member of College Place United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. He served as President of the Lions Club and was very involved in numerous charities and volunteer work throughout his life.
Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, June, his daughters Joy Patton Owens (Darrell), Edy Patton, and Amy Patton Seymour (Alex), his grandsons Ryan, Riley and Noah, his granddaughter, Carly, his brother Grady Patton and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his sisters, Marcia Breedlove and Sara Kauslick, his brother David Patton and many dear cousins, aunts and uncles.
A celebration of life service will be held on August 12, 2023 at College Place United Methodist Church in Greensboro, NC at 10:00 am. Entombment with Military Honors will follow at Westminster Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to College Place United Methodist Church or AuthoraCare (Hospice Care of Greensboro).
