Richard E. Smith

Mr. Smith was born on December 8, 1942 in Mooresville, NC, the son of Elmore Smith and Virginia Brooks Smith. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. He sang tenor in the church choir, “The Elders” gospel quartet, and “The Senior Singing Ambassadors.”

He graduated from Page High School in 1961. He retired from John H. Harland Printing Company in 2001.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Smith Dwyer. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Rebecca (Becky) Bonkemeyer Smith; son, Kerry Smith and wife Donna and their daughters, Hannah and Renee of Charlotte, NC; son, Jeffrey Smith and finance Sharon Byrd and her daughters, Krystal and Amy of Kernersville, NC; sister, Gayle Knott and husband Wayne of Reidsville, NC.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 1st, 2:00 P.M. at St. John’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s UMC, 1304 Merritt Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.

The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
