Ric was born on October 7, 1954, in Alexandria, Virginia, to Richard Huntington Walker and Edna Williamson Walker. As a child he resided in Asheville and Winston Salem, NC. He spent much of his childhood in the United Methodist Children’s Home in Winston Salem. He enlisted in the Navy after graduation from high school and subsequently served in the Navy Reserves and the Army National Guard.
Ric is survived by his wife of 28 years, Trainey Boyd Walker, son, Christopher Walker (Ashley), and daughter, Ariane Hunt (Caleb), as well as special nephew Chris Boyd (Sarah). He is also survived by brothers Michael Walker and David Arrington, and sister Margo LaFever (Brent). He was well-loved by the Boyd family of Richlands, Virginia with many sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.
His favorite people in the world were his 7 grandchildren: Simon Walker, and Caroline, Rachel, Owen, Hosanna, Silas, and Mary-Grace Hunt, and great-nieces Blake and Dylan Boyd. He was a wonderful Pop Pop and will be greatly missed.
Everyone that met and spent time with Ric would always remember him. He was a giant presence who wanted to help anyone around him. It was normal (and oftentimes embarrassing to his family) for him to offer aid to strangers or stop and pick up trash along the road. He aimed to teach his children and grandchildren to have a helping spirit as well. He made the world a better place with small acts of kindness.
A service to celebrate Ric’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on November 4th, 2023 in the “Eagle’s Nest” at Grace Community Church (643 W. Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC). Ric’s loved ones invite attendees to join them in wearing blue in honor of Ric. The family will receive visitors at 2:30. A bubble tribute and reception will follow the service.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.AdvantageGreensboro.com for the Walker family.
