Patsy “Nana” Roberson Carroll died peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 15th. In 2005, she suffered what should have been a fatal stroke. She spent the next 20 years overcoming many obstacles, maintaining a high quality of life despite all odds. Only because of the love from her family, wonderful care and the grace of God, she stayed on this earth much longer than doctors ever believed possible. She was Nana to everyone who loved her.
Prior to her stroke, she was an amazing mother who never thought of herself but gave her all for her family. She worked to help support the family while raising two kids and never missing an activity or sporting event. She always had a hot meal on the table, and she selflessly provided for everyone else. As a grandmother, she was adored by her grandchildren and never missed a soccer game, football game, or dance recital. She was superwoman who could do it all.
After her stroke, with some limitations, she faced adversity head on and never complained. While she had limited mobility and speech capabilities, she held her head high as the queen bee of the family. She was truly a Steel Magnolia, and an ever-proper southern lady. She was never to be seen without full face, perfectly styled hair, and dressed to the nines in colorful (and often sparkly) ensembles. She loved God first and then her family.
Patsy met the love of her life, Roy Sr., in Falcon, North Carolina in 1960. They eloped to get married in 1961 and began their journey of 47 years, cut short by his death in 2008. She was a hard worker, often working multiple jobs to support her family. She retired from Chandler Foods in 2005 after more than 25 years of service.
Patsy was predeceased by Roy Sr. as well as brothers Croswell Roberson and Bill Roberson. She is survived by her children Roy II (Vanessa) and Toika Carroll Gunter (David). Grandchildren Brittany Carroll, Karissa Neese Morrison (Kasey), Madison Carroll Snyder (Trevor), Kamron Neese (Ashley) Hayleigh Carroll (Gregory Hopkins). Great-grandsons Blake, Nathan, and Henry Morrison and Gabriel Taylor Carroll Snyder. Sister Peggy Roberson West, Brothers Robert Roberson (Phebe) Tommy Roberson (Shanna) and David Roberson (Mary) as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Patsy’s family is forever grateful to the many caregivers who cared for her over the years, including Kiki, Vonnie, Dior, Kaylee, and Tiffany. She especially loved Lillyan Jiles who was with her for more than 14 years and whom she considered to be her family.
Graveside will be private. A Celebration of life will be held at Calvary Church (1665 Pleasant Ridge Road, Greensboro NC) on Tuesday, April 22nd at 1:00pm. The family will receive friends following the service. Feel free to wear bright colors and sparkles for Nana.
