Mrs. Nelda Perry King, a native of Morganton, NC, died at her home on November 26, 2022. She was an honors graduate of Salem High School, and also graduated from Appalachian State University with honors. Mrs. King was a retired teacher and taught in both Burke and Guilford Counties. Following retirement, she devoted time and energy to Reading Connections, Master Gardeners, and family and friends. She was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa for many years, and enjoyed traveling and gardening, and was an avid reader.
She was predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings. Mrs. King was also predeceased by her husband of forty years, William E. King, Jr. of Greensboro, and their first born child, Mrs. Brent Elizabeth King Mabe, of Burlington. Surviving Mrs. King is her son, Brian King, of Apollo Beach, Fl; daughter, Laura King Clarke (Bob) of Durham. Other survivors are son-in-law, Stephen G. Mabe of Burlington; granddaughter, Jacqueline King of Tampa, and grandsons, Michael Roberson of Durham and John Roberson of Asheville. She is also survived by several special nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mrs. King will be held at River Landing at Sandy Ridge in Colfax, NC, on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be during a separate, private service at Centenary United Methodist Church where she and her husband were active members for many years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the American Cancer Society, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or the Authoracare Collective.
