Nancy is survived by her Daughter and Son-In-Law, Sara & Brian Nelson of Lexington, NC,; Brother and Sister, Sunny Griffin of Greensboro, NC and Betty Yow of High Point, NC; and Grandchildren, Sierra Nelson of Fort Worth, TX, and Savannah & Stephen DiPaola (grandson-in-law) of Angleton, TX. Waiting in Heaven for Nancy is her son, George Sterling Petty III [Skip].
Born in High Point, NC, she was one of nine children, being the youngest daughter of Joseph and Mary Griffin. Nancy graduated from Jamestown High School in 1955, where she was not only All-County in Basketball, but participated in softball, cheerleading, and was a Majorette. Nancy’s main profession was in woodwork, a skill following in her father’s footsteps, of creating furniture. Shortly following the birth of her second granddaughter, Nancy chose to retire to become a caregiver to her two granddaughters. Her granddaughters were her whole world and she made sure to tell everyone about their adventures and how proud she was of them.
Nancy was active in her local senior community and regularly attended worship when she was physically able in Lexington, NC. She loved gardening, romance novels, cooking for her friends & family, talking on the phone, watching the Game Show Network, and speaking about the Lord’s gospel. To know Nancy, you knew that she lived for her family and friends. She passed away peacefully knowing she was deeply loved by so many. She leaves a hole in our hearts and will be greatly missed. Until we meet again…
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407. Nancy will be laid to rest, next to her son Skip, immediately following the funeral, in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends and loved ones, one hour prior to the funeral, from 1:00 until 2:00 pm.
